About Thomas Philipot's Almshouse Charity

Independent Living

It is a condition of living at the almshouses that residents must be capable of independent living. However, the Trustees do all that is possible to allow residents to remain in their own home, provided they do not become a risk to themselves or other residents. The warden offers support to all residents. Those experiencing declining health or infirmity may also need the additional support of professional carers.

Trustees

Eleven Trustees manage the Charity and meet regularly throughout the year. Seven are representative of the Parish of Eltham and four Chislehurst.

Warden

The warden is appointed by the Trustees to look after the well-being of the residents. The warden lives on site in a self-contained bungalow known as Spears Lodge to commemorate Mary Spears as a benefactor of the Charity.

Accommodation

The almshouses consist of 36 flats of which 24 one bedroom flats have been converted from the Almshouses built in 1929. There are also 9 two bedroom and 3 one bedroom in a purpose built block designed to accommodate physically impaired or wheelchair users.
