The residents enjoy a close-knit and supportive community. There is a communal hall and gardens for all to enjoy, which are used for many social activities. The Warden organises many activities, including breakfasts, fish and chip lunches, ploughman lunches, film afternoons, visiting speakers and entertainers, barbecues and visits from local schools. During most of these activities, the residents raise funds to support local and national charities.
Residents also organise their own activities, including craft club, lunch club, bingo, keep fit and occasional visits to the theatre. They also meet socially in the hall, and in the warmer weather, in the gardens.
The almshouses are tucked behind Eltham High Street and are ideally situated for the local community. There are shops, cafés, the Eltham Centre, swimming pool, library, cinema and other local amenities within easy walking distance. Eltham Community Hospital and the GP surgery are located on the opposite side of Passey Place. For anyone wanting to travel further afield, there are many nearby bus routes serving the wider area, and the train station is a 20-minute walk away.
